Misty went from practicing law in a small town in North Carolina to NC’s biggest city of Charlotte, and then all the way to New York City. But now, she’s back in North Carolina at Rosen practicing family law, which is where her heart truly is. Her presence here is also a bit of a family affair – her cousin Lindsay Willis is a lawyer with the firm as well.
As such, she’s also very keen when it comes to dealing with sensitive family matters. Other than her work with Rosen, Misty’s main claim to fame is as a children’s book author. Her book, designed to help children deal with grief, is called Why Did You Leave Us, We Loved You So? She was even asked to read the book at a Read Across America event held in Newark, New Jersey. Misty says there’s a special story behind the shell at the front of the book, so when you meet her, be sure to ask her about it.
Misty’s experience in law is very diverse. Early in her career, Misty worked as a litigator in District and Superior Courts and after practicing family law for a while in NYC, she took a job as a sales account manager with Iron Mountain, which put her on the other side of things, selling document storage and data protection to large corporate law firms. To say she knows the ins and outs of the legal system is an understatement.
Misty received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from UNC at Chapel Hill and her Juris Doctor from Campbell University, where she was in the Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity and a semi-finalist in the Client Counseling Competition. She was also a regular guest speaker for the Women’s Commission of Charlotte
Misty loves the Tarheels and Mexican food—and yes, in that order. Her favorite place on earth is Atlantic Beach, but nothing captures her heart like her two sons. Her best moments are spent playing, reading, and laughing with them.
Misty’s professional devotion, of course, remains with her clients, and it’s very rewarding for her to help them through trying times. As she puts it, “Not only will I tenaciously advocate for your rights, but I’ll also listen to you and be the voice of reason you can rely on.”
Why I Practice Family Law
I see it has an opportunity to help children and families get through one of those most difficult times in their lives. My goal is not only to vigorously advocate for my clients but also to help them see the light at the end of the tunnel and come out of this process knowing they can move ahead in their lives. I take great pride in being there for my clients in this time of their lives and knowing that I can be a small part in helping them heal and move on.
