The stress of divorce can be overwhelming. There are phone calls to your Raleigh divorce lawyer, trips to your ex’s place to drop off the kids, and everyday work and activities – it just feels like there’s no end in sight.
When you feel like you can’t take one more minute, it’s time to arrange a staycation right here in Raleigh. You don’t have to spend a lot to get away for a couple of days (especially if you spend the night at home), but the rewards are priceless.
One-Day Getaways to Soothe Your Soul
Whether you can only spare one day or you’re taking a few, there’s plenty to do in Raleigh. Most of the activities listed here are kid-friendly, but adults can enjoy them alone as well.
Day One
Start your morning off by strolling through the North Carolina Museum of History (and enjoy its free admission), checking out 600 years of artifacts. Once you’re done there, head to your favorite carry-out restaurant and have a picnic lunch at Pullen Park.
Spend the afternoon taking in an adventure flick at the Wells Fargo Imax and walking the kids through Marbles Kids’ Museum (they’re co-located). Admission is $5 for everybody over the age of one.
Day Two
Take a self-guided tour around the Capitol, where you’ll see several displays commemorating North Carolina history and each branch of the military. Make your way to City Market when your stomach starts to growl – there are several restaurants and cafes that capture local and international flavor.
Have a blast with a round of putt-putt, release some stress in the batting cages or in the laser tag course, or splash around in the bumper boats at Frankie’s Fun Park in the afternoon. (The only downside is that there’s no general admission; each activity is payable separately.)
Day Three
Enjoy a one-hour horseback ride at Painted Sunset Farm shortly after breakfast, and then head over to Mordecai Historic Park and hop on the Raleigh Trolley (kids under six are free; youth up to age 17 cost $4 and adults can ride for $10) for an insider’s view of the Raleigh most people never see.
After lunch downtown, make your way to the African American Cultural Complex (call first, because it’s open by appointment only) to discover the unique and outstanding contributions early African Americans made to North Carolina’s rich history.
Staying Close to Home
When you stay close to home and take a mini-vacation, you don’t have to coordinate visitation with your ex, you can keep in contact with your Raleigh divorce lawyer if necessary, and you’ll save big money (which is a bonus if you’re sticking to a budget).
If you do decide to go out of town, make sure your Raleigh divorce lawyer knows where you’ll be and how to contact you if there’s a development in your case.
